e-learning

Safe Water Sports created an online educational platform named “Safe Water Sports e-learning Academy”, specially designed for children and young people aged 5 to 16. The educational material which is provided via Safe Water Sports e-learning Academy is approved by the Ministry of Education and it is also used by the Coast Guard Department of the Ministry of Shipping to educate and inform children inside classrooms of public schools across the country. Each year more than 30,000 primary and secondary school students are informed and trained by this program.

SafeWaterSports e-learning Academy aims to raise awareness and educate children in order to maximize prevention and reduce the number of drownings and accidents that occur in the sea and water each year.

The lectures’ program (Safe Water Sports e-learning Academy), introduces the basic safety guidelines that children need to know and follow while they are on the beach, when they swim and when they have fun in water sports. The duration of the presentation lasts for almost one hour. The program includes audiovisual material depending on the age of the children who watch it, for instance the presentation is different for children aged 5-8, 9-11 and 12+.

The informational material which is incorporated in the program is fully recorded (in both Greek and English language) and therefore its presentation can be performed without the trainer (presenter) having a specific form of knowledge or actively participating in it. All you need is a computer with an Internet access and a projector in order to gather all children and watch the presentation. However, at the same time the program enables instructors to interfere with the structure of the educational scenario and create a new form adapted to their own needs.

The informational material consists of:

  • Introductory 3D animation character video with the child’s character "Octopus Safe"
  • Video story with animation graphics
  • Illustrated cartoon - animated safety guidelines narrated by the rapporteur
  • Animated quiz with questions (find the error)
  • Children's song called "Water is joy" in video format (animation graphics)
  • Inspirational videos filmed with the ambassadors of SafeWaterSports (Olympic Winners & Water Sports – Water Truck Champions) who present their personal message about safety in the water
  • Real Stories video: short – length documentary with a happy end, through which children narrate their own adventures in the sea and share the mistakes or omissions they made that put them at risk
